Notes

  • This schema was first proposed in 1963-1964 by Notker Fueglister, OSB (1931-1996), on some basic principles which corresponded to the liturgical code in the Rule of St. Benedict, e.g., the entire psalter within a week's period, and no repetitions of psalms during that period, and others.
  • According to Marcel Rooney, OSB, now Abbot Primate for the Benedictine
Confederation, this schema (B) of the Thesaurus, is the most popular of all the schemas in use. (He published his survey in 1993 in The American Benedictine Review in December, 1993:  Thesaurus Liturgiae Horarum Monasticae: A Treasure Still Hidden.
  • Please refer to the OT and NT Canticle chart for the use of canticles marked above.
